- ItemCausas de muerte asociadas a procedimientos lipoplásticos: descripción de casos valorados en el Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses Regional Bogotá entre 1995-2008(UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA, 2009) GUILLERMO ANDRES MONTES LOAIZA M.D.; Montes Loaiza, Guillermo Andrés; Aguirre Serrano, Herley; Morales Martínez, Pedro EmilioDescriptive case-series study of deaths associated with lipoplastic procedures (mainly liposuction, lipectomy and fat grafting) examined at the Bogotá Regional office of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences between 1995 and 2008. A systematic review of case files and autopsy reports was carried out in order to collect demographic and anthropometric data, together with information on surgical and anesthetic techniques, institutional characteristics, autopsy procedures, complementary tests and certified causes of death. The thesis describes the frequency and combinations of aesthetic procedures, infiltrated and aspirated volumes, types of infiltration and anesthesia, as well as the main pathological findings and the quality of forensic documentation. The results show that most deaths occurred in adult women operated on in accredited institutions and identify fat embolism and massive pulmonary thromboembolism as the leading causes of death. The author discusses the clinical and forensic implications of these findings and proposes recommendations for surgical practice and for the standardization of autopsy protocols in deaths related to lipoplastic procedures.
- ItemReevaluación de la incapacidad y secuelas medicolegales derivadas de secciones tendinosas de la mano(UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA, 2005) CARLOS ANTONIO MURILLO; Murillo, Carlos Antonio; Aguirre Serrano, HerleyForensic medicine thesis that analyzes the assessment of disability and medicolegal sequelae derived from tendon lacerations of the hand. Based on a review of cases evaluated at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the study describes the anatomical and functional complexity of the hand, the flexor and extensor tendon systems, and the main injury mechanisms. The author highlights the need for a thorough clinical examination, precise anatomical description of the lesion, the number of tendons involved and the functional differences between the thumb and the other digits. From these elements, the thesis proposes a re-evaluation of the criteria used to assign medicolegal days of disability and to estimate the risk of sequelae, suggesting differentiated disability ranges according to the type and extent of tendon injury in order to provide more objective and fair expert opinions for victims.
