- ItemExploración de la osteometría esternal de una población de morgue del Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses de Bogotá(UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA, 2002) CAROLINA PUERTO VALDIVIESO; Puerto Valdivieso, CarolinaForensic anthropological study that examines the metric variability of the sternum in a sample of one hundred adult morgue cases from the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Bogotá, in order to assess its usefulness for sex determination. Using radiographs of the sterno–costal plate, osteometric measurements of the manubrium, body and xiphoid process, together with selected morphoscopic traits, are recorded and analysed by descriptive statistics and discriminant function analysis. The research produces discriminant functions tailored to the mestizo Cundiboyacense population under study, with correct classification rates close to 90 %, and concludes that the sternum is a useful complementary sex indicator in forensic contexts, although less diagnostic than the skull and pelvis.
