    Revisión taxonómica de las especies cultivadas del género Erythroxylum P. Browne (Erythroxylaceae) y su aplicación en el contexto de la botánica forense en Colombia

    Taxonomic and forensic study on the cultivated coca species of the genus Erythroxylum (E. coca and E. novogranatense) in Colombia. Using historical herbarium collections and recent samples from illicit crops, the author examines in detail vegetative, reproductive, morphometric and anatomical characters, together with the current geographic distribution of the plants. The results show that many individuals do not fully match the classical descriptions of the species and varieties, and point to the presence of intermediate forms that may be related to hybridization processes and to strong artificial selection in illicit crops. The thesis updates the taxonomic treatment of cultivated cocas, discusses the implications of these findings for the forensic interpretation of plant evidence and proposes standardized procedures and technical documents for the taxonomic identification of coca material at the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences.
