dc.description.abstractThis study compiles and systematizes information from State institutions that support the administration of justice, such as the Administrative Department of Security (DAS), the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police (DIJIN), in order to analyze how surveying is applied in the investigation of criminal events. It focuses particularly on its use in cases of deaths caused by firearm projectiles and traffic accidents, showing that criminalistics relies on the natural sciences—especially physics—and that surveying, as a technique of measurement and graphic representation, is essential for fixing the crime scene, documenting the death‑scene investigation and reconstructing the dynamics of events. The topographic survey, carried out carefully and systematically, makes it possible to record information on the position of the body, the location of evidence, trajectories, access routes and the physical environment, which is later translated into sketch maps and scaled plans. Two theoretical‑practical cases—one traffic accident and one homicide by firearm—are presented to illustrate the working methodology of the surveyor within the technical team and to demonstrate the impact of surveying on criminal investigation and judicial decision‑making.en
dc.description.abstractEste trabajo recopila y sistematiza información procedente de entidades estatales que apoyan la administración de justicia, como el Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad (DAS), el Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses, la Fiscalía General de la Nación y la Policía Nacional (DIJIN), para analizar cómo la topografía se aplica en la investigación de hechos criminales. Se estudia en particular su uso en casos de muertes por proyectil de arma de fuego y accidentes de tránsito, mostrando que la criminalística se apoya en las ciencias naturales —en especial la física— y que la topografía, como técnica de medición y representación gráfica, es fundamental para fijar la escena del delito, documentar el levantamiento de cadáver y reconstruir la dinámica de los hechos. El levantamiento topográfico, realizado de manera cuidadosa, metódica y concienzuda, permite recoger información sobre la posición del cadáver, ubicación de evidencias, trayectorias, accesos y entorno físico, que luego se traduce en croquis y planos a escala. Finalmente se presentan dos casos teórico‑prácticos —uno de accidente de tránsito y otro de muerte por proyectil de arma de fuego— que ilustran la metodología de trabajo del topógrafo dentro del equipo técnico y evidencian la incidencia de la topografía en la investigación criminal y en la toma de decisiones judiciales.es
