Abstract
A review of 20 cases of suicide in city of Villavicencio in 2001 was made. In comparison with the last year, we found an increase in the younger groups and also about the total number of suicides (43 %). The review was made to try to identify the usefulness of the variables written in documents developed at the scene, description of findings in autopsy protocols, and the investigative activity actually followed to the determination of manner of death as a suicide. We intend to understand the failures and propose a check list model, or guidelines, that might be useful at the moment of begin the investigation in a possible case of suicide. We found that a complete and detailed register of findings at the scene occurs just in 20 % of cases. At the highest percentage of the cases we found no investigation about warning signs, physical diseases, mental disorders, background social and familiar, previous behavior and motives that can carry on someone to commit suicide.
